Torna la Troma, i aquesta vegada la qualitat és acollonant. Estic parlant de Honky holocaust, escrita i dirigida per Paul M McAlarney, el creador d’Ungovernable Films, «una companyia de cinema independent de l’àrea de Boston especialitzada en pel·lícules grindhouse». Honky Holocaust arriba com una gran sorpresa, amb sexe i violència emplenant la pantalla, un missatge sobre justícia social i racial que plana sobre la seva superfície amb tots els ingredients que ha de tenir un film destacat del gènere exploitation, ple de personatges arquetípics i amb una trama simple amb escenes i conceptes clixé.

La història de Honky Holocaust va directament al gra. Estem ara en una realitat alternativa on Charles Manson i la seva familia i acòlits han viscut enterrats dins un búnquer durant més de trenta anys. Després de la mort de Charles, Kendra Manson (Maria Natapov), filla del líder de la secta, emergeix de l’aïllat búnquer amb la resta de membres per trobar-se un món en què els afroamericans han empès els blancs cap a un estat de fam i depravació.

Film ultraviolent i insanament estrany, Honky Holocaust ret homenatge a llegendes notables de directors underground com ara Roger Corman, John Waters, Jack Hill, Sergio Corbucci i, per descomptat, Lloyd Kaufman, amb una inclinació a ensenyar inquietants girs on la desigualtat racial es barreja amb temes tabú i escenes gràfiques, incloent-hi nus frontals masculins i femenins.

Bones actuacions i gore, ens recorda el film italià mondo Goodbye uncle Tom (1971) amb elements de Surf nazis must die (1987) de la Troma. No està recomanada per a tots els públics, evidentment, especialment per a aquells que estan acostumats a les pel·lícules tipus Cineplex, però és un dels millors films del 2016 per la seva grotesca atmosfera i la seva originalitat caricaturesca.

Si de veritat us agrada el cinema, aneu a veure-la. Honky Holocaust és el vostre film.

Troma is back and this time the quality is astounding. I am talking about Honky Holocaust, written and directed by Paul M McAlarney, the founder of Ungovernable Films, «an independent film company from the greater Boston area, specializing in grindhouse films». Honky Holocaust comes as as surprise, with sex and violence filling the screen, a race and social justice message lurking beneath the surface and  with the ingredients of a distinguised exploitation film full of archetypial characters,  cliche plots and scenes and straightforward motifs and themes.

The story of Honky Holocaust goes straight to the point. We are now in an alternate reality where Charles Manson and his familly and accolites have lived in an underground bunker for over thirty years. After Charle’s demise, Kendra Manson (Maria Natapov), descendant of the cult leader, emerges from the isolated bunker with the rest of the cult to find a world where African-American have pushed the whites into a state of famine and deprivation.

As an  ultra-violent, insanely bizarre film, Honky Holocaust pays homage to notable underground legends such as Roger Corman, John Waters, Jack Hill, Sergio Corbucci and, of course, Lloyd Kaufman with an inclination to showcase an unsettling twist on racial inequality merging taboo subjects with cheesy graphic scenes including frontal male and female nudity .

Good acting and gore, it reminds us of the Mondo Italian film Goodbye Uncle Tom (1971) with a twist of Troma’s Surf Nazis Must Die (1987). It is not suitable for all viewers, of course, specially for those accostumed to Cineplex movies, but it’s one of the best films of 2016 because of its grotesque atmosphere and outlandish originality.

If you really love movies, go watch it. Honky Holocaust is the right film for you.
