En total, \u00e9s autor d\u2019una vuitantena d\u2019obres, entre les quals hi ha diversos atles, que li van valer el t\u00edtol de <em>Sir<\/em> perqu\u00e8 contribu\u00efen al coneixement de la hist\u00f2ria de la Gran Bretanya. Tanmateix, l&#8217;esfor\u00e7 de Gilbert deu haver quedat en un segon\u00a0terme\u00a0per al propietari d\u2019una de les obres, que\u00a0ha decidit desfer-se&#8217;n. El llibre, i encara uns altres, ha acabat al costat d\u2019un contenidor d\u2019escombraries en un carrer del Masnou, al Maresme.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\">Hi ha gent que recull animals abandonats, uns altres busquen metalls per la sorra de la platja. La meva amiga Marta \u00e9s de les que no pot deixar\u00a0abandonats els llibres que altres llencen al carrer. Quan dissabte va trobar <em>First World War<\/em> <em>Atlas<\/em> de Martin Gilbert va pensar en mi. Avui me l\u2019ha dut. El llibre est\u00e0 en perfecte estat. Va ser publicat a Londres el 1970 i el seu comprador va pagar 7 lliures i noranta-cinc penics. Ara \u00e9s en un prestatge, a casa meva.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\">Em fascinen els mapes. Sempre he cregut que trens i mapes formaven un binomi perfecte. Potser no tinc ra\u00f3 per\u00f2 tan se val, perqu\u00e8 he aconseguit un llibre amb cent seixanta mapes que mostren els diferents escenaris de la primera guerra mundial. Escenaris en qu\u00e8 hi ha ferrocarrils. Em t\u00e9 captivat.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\">Entre tots els mapes n\u2019hi ha un que em crida l\u2019atenci\u00f3. Du per nom <em>The Berlin Bagdad Railway by 1914<\/em>. \u00c9s a la p\u00e0gina quatre, la qual cosa vol dir que l\u2019autor el devia considerar important. Hi escriu: <em>German hoped to gain important trade and political influence in Turkey and Persia by the construction of the Berlin Bagdad Railway. With exception of 175 miles in Servia, its 1.875 miles ran through countries sympathetic to Germany. But British traders could make as much use of it as they wished, and French investors has a strong financial interest. The railway was in no sense a cause of war, althoug British public opinion saw it as evidence of German and Austrian expansionist tendencies<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\">Ara, si tanco el llibre i n\u2019obro un altre, que cont\u00e9 el mapa de l\u2019Espanya dels TGV, presents i futurs, no puc evitar de veure-hi una evid\u00e8ncia de les tend\u00e8ncies expansionistes de les pot\u00e8ncies centrals.
