El problema era l&#8217;ample de via ib\u00e8ric que es va fer seguint el patr\u00f3 dels anomenats sis peus castellans o el posterior ample de Renfe, que no es va adaptar mai a l&#8217;ample de via europeu. No hi ha una ra\u00f3 de consens del per qu\u00e8 s&#8217;ha mantingut l&#8217;a\u00efllament ferroviari \u2013a excepci\u00f3 del tren Talgo. Hi ha la llegenda d&#8217;una estrat\u00e8gia militar per evitar una invasi\u00f3, o l&#8217;argumentaci\u00f3 t\u00e8cnica pel tipus de locomotores de vapor que s&#8217;utilitzaven a l&#8217;Estat espanyol. El fet \u00e9s que durant anys hem patit un Estat aut\u00e0rquic amb un sistema viari radial cap a i des de Madrid (que encara persisteix).
