No es referia a l’arquitectura de les seves torres ni al verd de la gespa, ni als murs coberts per l’heura. Admirava l’esplèndida bellesa de la Universitat, va dir, perquè era un lloc on aquells que odiaven la ignorància podien esforçar-se a aprendre, i aquells que percebien la veritat podien aconseguir que altres també la coneguessin>>.

Mort i fred?

Poc se sap sobre Plutó, el més remot dels planetes, que separen del centre del sistema solar ni més ni menys que 6.000 milions de quilòmetres. El 1930 Clyde Tombaugh va confirmar a l’Observatori Lowell, d’Arizona (EUA) la presència de Plutó, l’existència del qual se sospitava des de temps enrere. Fins ara és impossible analitzar-ne l’atmosfera, ni tan sols comprovar-ne l’existència. Tampoc no se’n pot determinar la temperatura, encara que sembla segur que Plutó és un planeta absolutament mort i inconcebiblement fred.

Little is known about Pluto, the most remote of the planets, separated from the center of the solar system by no less than 6 billion kilometers. In 1930, Clyde Tombaugh confirmed the presence of Pluto at the Lowell Observatory in Arizona (USA), a long-suspected existence. To date, it is impossible to analyze its atmosphere, or even to verify its existence. Nor can its temperature be determined, although it seems certain that Pluto is an absolutely dead planet and inconceivably cold.
